October, 21st, 2023 The Southern Illinois Corvette Club begin a cruise to the War Time Museum in Evansville, IN.
We arrive at the museum.
Our tour guide Mark explains the Evansville manufacturers of products for the war such as the bubble turret for fighter planes.

July 15th, 2023 Southern Illinois Corvette Club cruised to Firefly Grill & Farm in Effingham. Then onto Mid America Motorworks.
Ten Corvettes and 18 people participated.
A very nice dining room overlooking the lake. Jack, Jerry, Tom, Alison, Larry, Jeff, Audrey, Brandon, Krisha, Christie, J.J., Gary, Connie, Stewart, Terra, Brenda, Linda, & Kevin.
We arrived at Mid America, 2800 N 3rd St. Effingham, IL.
Mid America is home to the Corvette Funfest which is September 14-16, 2023.
Displays in the “My Garage” corvette musuem at Mid America Motorworks.
We met and visited with Mike Yager who started Mid America Motorworks….one of the world’s largest supplier of parts and accessories for Corvettes and is in the Corvette Hall of Fame._____________________________________________________________________________

June 11th, 2023 The Club gathered to begin the trip to Bowling Green.
Nine Corvettes and 1 truck and 20 people cruising down to meet one Corvette and 2 people there.
A brief stop at the Jefferson Davis monument. The monument is a 351 foot tall concrete obelisk on a foundation of solid Kentucky limestone.

After a good night’s sleep and breakfast at the Drury Inn, we arrived at the Corvette Assembly Plant.
There’s only outdoor pictures from the Plant. No cell phones or cameras allowed inside the Plant.

June 10th, 2023 the Southern Illinois Corvette Club Cruises down Grassy Road.
We arrive at Little Grassy Fish Hatchery Illinois Department of Natural Resources. Eleven Corvettes and 17 people.
Colby, the IDNR professional, explains the layout of the fish hatchery. It includes 21 ponds and 18 raceways where channel cat fish, blue catfish, and bass are held at each different stage of growth.
Members are attentive as we watch and listen to the video and speaker.
Incubators where fish eggs are oxygenated until they hatch.
Indoor raceways where the small “Fry” are kept.

We then drove to Giant City Lodge where we found another group of Corvettes on a St. Jude’s drive.

May 27th, 2023 The Corvette Club was on a beautiful route to the Cave-In-Rock Cave House.
Upon entrance the first building was called the Pyramid.
Twenty members particpated.
Eleven Corvettes Cruis’in.
Tameron was our hostess and explained how the original designer’s, Dr. James Armour, aim of the Cave House was to help “Change the World”.
Dude further explained the unusual aspects of the Cave House.
There are no intentional 90 degree angles in the Cave House.

Then onto Cairo.
We have arrived at the Custom House Museum. In 1859 it was decided that Cairo needed a Custom House to collect duty after goods had passed the point of entry. The Custom House was built in 1872.
A 1920’s Popcorn Wagon used in Cairo.
The support pillars on the first floor, newel post and spindles of the stair banisters are made of cast iron. The wood used in the interior is black and white walnut.
An 1865 Cairo Fire Department Pumper.
The floors are squares of white marble and black slate. So many interesting historical facts on display….A good time was had by all._________________________________________________________________________________________________

November 8th, 2022 Southern Illinois Corvette Club Cruise to Dinger Bats in Ridgway.
The Club members met at Wal-Mart on route to Ridgway. Eight Corvettes.
Arrived at Dinger Bats.
Eighteen people participated in the Cruise.
Billets or blanks all marked by weight. The most popular wood is hard Maple.
The Lathe milling a bat. Dinger can produce around 150 bats a day. They produce for Professional Major Leagues to Little Leagues.
Luke demontrated the cupping machine. The precise weight can be achieved by cupping the bat’s end.
Sanded and polished, the bats are ready to go to paint and engraving.
Kyle explained the paint booth operation, drying process, conveyor track, engraving, and decals. Thank you Kyle and everyone at Dinger Bats for a great tour!
On the way to lunch, we did a slow roll by the brand new mural on the Harrisburg Fire Department.
After the tour, a lunch at Mackie’s in Harrisburg was great! ________________________________________________

`August 13, 2022 the Southern Illinois Corvette Club met at the Williams County Historical Society/ Jail Museum.
Eleven Corvettes
Eighteen members participated in the tour and one more joined at lunch.
Our tour guides, Sam and Sharon, were very informative and well versed in Williamson County History.

Crime doesn’t pay.
After getting released from the JailHouse, the Corvette Gang tried to learn a honest living at the Franklin County Garage.
The Garage has a unique barrel-shaped roof design constructed in 1910 and housed the first Ford franchise in Franklin County then sold in 1916 and expanded offerings to Chevrolets, Dorts, and Oaklands. In 1919, over 2,000 cars were sold, a record for all Chevrolet dealerships in Illinois.

May 21, 2022 Everyone meeting getting ready to leave on a cruise to the Olmsted Locks & Dam on the Ohio River.
Sixteen participated in the Club Cruise.
The “Old Chester PA” Baldt has been designing and manufacturing anchors and chain for commercial shipping and the U.S. Navy since 1901.
The U.S. Army Corp of Engineers Louisville District is the operator. Construction began December 1995 and the opening date was August 2018. The estimated cost is over $3 billion.
The Olmsted project is intended to reduce delays by replacing the older and often congested #52 & #53 locks & dams located 17 miles upstream.
The Olmstead Rail station was built in 1872 by the Cairo and Vincennes Railroad. Trains imported goods for the town and exported goods such as chickens, mussel shells, and agricultural products. Service to the station ended in 1955.

April 9th, 2022 A Club Cruise to General 3 Metal Spinning Co.
15 members and 7 corvettes staged at the Airport parking lot getting ready to leave.

Bill, the owner and operator, gives us the history of the business. His grandfather started the metal spinning business in the 1940’s in Chicago.
Bill uses the original metal lathes around 100 years old.
The equipment originally ran on a building long belt system. Now, they’re belt driven with an attached electric motor.
Spinning the aluminum and shaping over the form.
He makes a wide variety of items for businesses all across the country.
April 1st, 2022, The first Southern Illinois Corvette Club/Krispy Kreme Cruise-In of the 2022 season was a great success! 31 vehicles participated.
Jeff Wisely played the National Anthem. Thank you Jeff, it was absolutley great!

October 23,2021 Southern Illinois Corvette Club cruised to The John Marshall House Museum in Old Shawneetown, IL. John Marshall was one of the founders and presidents of the Bank of Illinois, the first bank chartered by the Illinois Territorial Legislature in 1816 and opened in 1817.
Thirteen Club members and one guest attended. The John Marshall House is the 3rd oldest brick building in Illinois and the first bank before Illinois was a state.
There are pioneer furnishings, documents, photos and historic memorabilia.

The Club arrived at Missouri’s National Veterans Memorial in Perryville, MO.
The names are arranged in order of date of casualty and alphabetically on each day beginning at the center.
The diamond symbol by each name denotes that the service member is known dead. The plus sign symbol denotes that the service member remains unaccounted for.

We stopped at Cliff View Park.
We could see Bald Knob Cross accross the valley.
We were learning about hand packed dry cast limestone planters.
